Idaho for Obama is an
Idaho grassroots organization dedicated to helping Barack Obama
win the United States presidency. Idaho for Obama believes
that Barack Obama is a presidential candidate who can inspire
Americans to work together to overcome our nation's domestic and
international issues. The group also has a strong belief that
Obama could be a candidate to regain America's trust in the
political process. In addition, Idaho for Obama believes that
average Idaho can be a powerful force for change in the 2008
presidential campaign. All those who are dissatisfied with
the state of the nation and its leadership are invited to join
with Idaho for Obama to inspire real change. Together we can
show that Idaho, and the rest of America, are ready for that
change.
Some
History:
Idaho for Obama was started in early 2007 by a handful of
spirited and committed Idahoans who were (and still are)
passionate about bringing the change inspired by Senator Obama.
Meetings were held, shirts were printed, stickers were made and
a small web site (which you can now see isn't so small) was
designed to help Idahoans learn about and organize the effort to
get Barack elected.
Over the summer, momentum grew as
more people became involved throughout the state. This
growth attracted the attention of the Obama for America
campaign, which led them to send Buffy Wicks in August for two
days of training called "Camp Obama."
Camp Obama laid the groundwork that excited 16 attendees to form
a plan to bring as many people to Obama as possible.
Meetings continued in various
places, mostly in the Boise area. After every meeting,
organizers talked about how cool it would be to have a real
office where we could meet, plan and phone bank. At the
next meeting, a call was made to see if anyone would help pay
for some inexpensive office space. What happened next was
simply amazing. Volunteers opened their wallets and paid
for the office, utilities, donated desks, brought in computers
and pretty much everything else needed to get an office up and
running!
Seeing even more momentum, the Obama
Campaign decided to send a full time staffer to Boise to lead
the charge for the state. Soon after, a second staffer was
added.
Today, Idaho for Obama remains a
spirited group of volunteers that make phone calls, donate food,
operate the web site, answer phones
and spread the word to other Idahoans about the Idaho caucus.
We have worked side-by-side with eight official staffers from the Obama
for America campaign, some of which are Idaho residents while
others were sent here after their work in Iowa and Nevada
For all of us with Idaho for Obama,
this journey has been a very exciting and rewarding experience.
We look forward to the final reward... President Barack
Obama!
